Emma and Garry

First-time buyers Emma Rae and Gary Weir are absolutely thrilled with their new two-bedroom ground-floor flat at Riverford Gardens, which they moved into in May 2019.

The couple had been saving hard for four years to get enough money together for a deposit, and when they saw the 156 property new build development being created in Pollokshaws they knew it was the right time to take the jump.

The couple’s ground floor flat has its own private outdoor terrace – a paved space, enclosed by hedging, accessible through patio doors in their light and spacious living room.  It also has communal gardens to the front, featuring colourful shrubs which offer seasonal interest all year round.

Emma said:

“As soon as we discovered that Riverford Gardens had flats with private gardens we got in touch and put our name on the waiting list. Getting our own garden was a deal breaker – we have our Golden Retriever George and we needed a space for him to roam around in and play.”

Emma had previously been living on nearby Kilmarnock Road with her father, while Gary stayed with his parents in Renfrewshire.  The couple knew that they wanted to find their first home together on the south side of Glasgow, but were struggling to find a suitable flat that would cater for George too.

Emma continued:

“The south side is a perfect location for all of us – there are lots of parks and green spaces to walk, as well as shops, restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. We had been looking at properties around here for some time, but there are very few new build properties on offer and traditional tenements rarely have private gardens.

“Keeping our ears close to the ground, we discovered two years ago that CCG Homes were going to build a new development, and we immediately got in touch to note our interest.”

Situated adjacent to Auldhouse Park, Queen’s Park and Pollok Country Park, new residents at Riverford Gardens benefit from an abundance of greenery and peaceful outdoor space while being only a 15-minute train journey to the city centre.

Delighted with their new location and access to outdoor space, what Emma and Gary love most about the interior side of their new home is its light and airy feel.

“The rooms are much bigger than the boxy ones you often come across in newly built properties”, Gary said.

“Everything about our new home is fantastic and we are so house proud. I enjoy cooking, so the kitchen is where I spend a lot of time. We had the opportunity to choose the colours and cabinet fittings in the kitchen so the space feels like our own. The appliances, such as the integrated oven, are an excellent quality.”
