First-time buyer couple Emma Rae and Gary Weir are absolutely thrilled with their new two-bedroom ground-floor apartment at Riverford Gardens, which they moved into in May 2019.
The 25 and 26-year-olds have been saving hard for the past four years to get enough money together for a deposit, and when they saw the 156 property new build development being created in Pollokshaws they knew it was the right time to take the plunge.
The couple’s ground floor flat has its own private outdoor terrace – a paved space, enclosed by hedging, which is accessible through patio doors in their light and spacious living room. It also has communal gardens to the front, featuring colourful shrubs which offer seasonal interest all year round.
Emma said: “As soon as we discovered that Riverford Gardens had flats with private gardens we got in touch and put our name on the waiting list. Getting our own garden was a deal-clincher – our family has a four-year-old Golden Retriever called George and puppy Ginny who stay with us from time to time so we needed a space for them both to roam around in and play.”
Until May, Emma had been living on nearby Kilmarnock Road with her father, while Gary stayed with his parents in Elderslie, Renfrewshire. The couple knew that they wanted to find their first home together on the south side of Glasgow, but were struggling to find a suitable flat that would cater for George too.
Emma continued: “The south side is a perfect location for all of us – there are lots of parks and green spaces to walk, as well as shops, restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. We had been looking at properties around here for some time, but there are very few new build properties on offer and traditional tenements rarely have private gardens.
“Keeping our ears close to the ground, we discovered two years ago that CCG Homes were going to build a new development, and we immediately got in touch to note our interest.”
Delighted with their new location and access to outdoor space, what Emma and Gary love most about the interior side of their new home is its light and airy feel. “The rooms are much bigger than the boxy ones you often come across in new build properties”, Gary said.
“Everything about our new home is fantastic and we are so house proud. I really enjoy cooking, and so the kitchen is a place where I spend a lot of time. We had the opportunity to choose the colours and cabinet fittings in the kitchen so the space feels like our own. The appliances, such as the integrated oven, are excellent quality.”
Food and drink lovers like Gary and Emma will relish in the fact that Strathbungo – voted one of the trendiest areas in the UK – and Shawlands, with its eclectic mixture of cafes, bars and restaurants, are only a short walk away. Those looking to go a little further afield to find their culinary fix – into Glasgow city centre or the West End – can easily do so via excellent train and bus links.
Gary said: “The south side is a great place to live. Everything is on our doorstep – sports facilities, eateries, shops and transport links – nothing is too far.”
The bathrooms at Riverford Gardens also feature designer sanitaryware, a choice of ceramic Porcelanosa wall tiling and chrome thermostatically-controlled showers, with the added touch of a drench shower for en-suites – something Emma especially loves.
Emma continued: “The customer service we’ve received from CCG Homes has been truly exceptional. Any snagging has been fixed quickly and professionally, and Gillian and Shirley in the Sales Team look after us incredibly well.”
