Get your garden summer-ready!

As we approach the summer months, the change in weather has got us thinking about how to get our gardens in tip-top shape for those longed-for family barbecues and some much-needed warmth.

Whether it’s a freshening up or some good old maintenance, now is the time to get out the lawnmower and the snippers for the ultimate garden transformation!

To maintain or not to maintain, that is the question

Investing in the right toolkit is a MUST when it comes to garden grooming! Whether your garden is big, small, narrow or wide, it is crucial to plan ahead for your garden goals and a big part of that is the freshening up of your turf or deciding to go artificial. This can strike fear into the hearts of keen gardeners but it is a low maintenance option and the quality of options these days offers varying alternatives to colours and styles. A particular question amongst families in recent times is how artificial materials react with puppies but again, there are lots of options available that are flexible to your needs.

Show your lawn some love

Ok, if the artificial grass isn’t your bag, get those tools sorted and get pruning. Now is the time to source weed-killing products to help remove any noticeable weeds from the garden area to allow light and water to reach the soil. The first step would be to focus on pathways and walkways to ensure your garden is looking presentable from the moment you enter. Plenty of weed-killers can be found online that are tailored to your specific garden needs! For the grass itself, always considerable environmentally (insect and pet) friendly products to help with the growing process, be it for the turf itself or if it the laying of soil. Plants are also a great option to bring your garden to life and there is always value to be had at local garden centres like Dobbies, or larger retailers like The Range.

A fresh lick of paint

As simple as it sounds, a fresh coat of paint on the garden fence can add a whole new dimension to your garden by giving it a much needed freshen up. Let’ be real – spending money on your garden only goes one way and that is UP, so, in much the same way as your home interiors, fresh colours can instantly change your gardens appeal and offer a stunning contrast to the vibrant plants and grass! Cuprinol Ducks Back paint in the shade Silver Copse is a great go-to in the search for that perfect grey!

Alfresco

The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly put emphasis on the home and garden environment. Staycations are going to be big this summer but is there any availability? No. So what have we done? Invested in our gardens. If you’re lucky enough to get hold of furniture for this summer, it will work wonders if a holiday is not on the agenda. Finding a solution that can both cater to alfresco dinging (or dining) can be adaptive to gardens big and small. For furniture styles, it has got to be rattan. It isn’t cheap but it is going to last and some of our favourite rattan collections are from Moda Furnishings but there are so many options out there ranging from Wayfair to dare we say, The Range, who has a surprisingly broad range to suit all budgets but be quick as they do not hang about!
